In our inquiry into 2 D shapes, we decided to step outside the classroom in search of right angles, objects with symmetry, congruency ... acute and obtuse angles. We worked in pairs, took photos, discussed our choices. This led to interesting observations. Connections were certainly made.
"I liked Math because I can go out and look for 2 D shapes in real life. I found right angles in doors. If the door did not have a right angle corner, the door will not close. If the door will not close, the robber will come inside. And I found symmetry in rectangular fence outside. "
In the above photos, we made congruent shapes on Geo boards.
CLARA'S BLOG POST: For this week it was special because it was the new year, the new year was 2018. We start the school on Tuesday. In math we go outside and take a picture of acute angle and obtuse angle… It was so cool!
HUISANG: I enjoyed Music because I learnt to play the recorder. It is easy to play. I am learning the Fight song.
We have launched into an exciting unit on poetry! We started with sharing out thoughts on poetry. Some students said that poems did not have to rhyme, some said that poems had a message.... We wrote acrostic poems, and are now trying to go deeper by using our senses to make our poems more meaningful.
UOI: We began our exploration of the new unit of inquiry into how we express ourselves.
The central idea is: The tools we use affect how we express our ideas.
LINES OF INQUIRY: Artistic expression in different cultures
