In our inquiry into who we are, we matched rights with responsibilities. Then we made our own CHARTER OF RIGHTS FOR OUR CLASSROOM - then we looked at real life scenarios from around the world to see if the rights of children had been upheld or denied.
Two people in our class were born on the same day - August 31, in the same year, but in different parts of the world today - aki and kajsa!
FATIMA, APPLE AND LINDA
Once school started again some people didn’t want to go back and some did. But once some of our friends have left and it time to make new friends.
There are a lot of new students and teachers but my favorite part of this year was probably are first week back at school because we all got to see each other again and are old teachers and new ones. It was the start of the new school year it’s nice to see old faces and new ones I’m so glad to be back.
What I liked the most about this week in school:
1.I liked swimming because it’s so refreshing and fun!
2I also liked daily five because I feel GREAT when I’m reading
3 Next I like lunch because we get to eat really yummy food
4 Finally I like my class because it is nice to hear the good answers and the good questions!
One thing I would like to do in class next week is to have easier problems to solve.
What I liked the most about this week: is
I like swimming because it was fun to swim and i enjoy swimming!
I also liked daily 5 because i like reading and it was fun to read books. I read a book called rainbow magic!
Next week I would like to do more writing and swimming.
Mystery reader in G3.2!!!
Maths has been lots of fun as we have started to look into what gives a number its value.
We started with using base ten blocks to understand and construct numbers.
What does 6 ones really looks like?
What do 7 tens look like?
We constructed the largest numbers we could using base ten blocks.
Then we looked at different ways to represent a given number.
For example, 256 can be 2 hundreds and 56 ones, or 256 ones, or 25 tens and 6 ones ... the possibilities are many based on our understanding of place value
Then some of us created mystery numbers to solve
Building our reading skills by learning to read to someone during daily 5
LIAM: I love to read to someone because I get to hear other people read to me.
Axel - reading to some one is just fun!!
Haruto - its fun! we can trade books, or read one book together. I liked reading with Rintaro.
Fatima: its fun because we can share our feelings about a book... tell a friend what we like about the book.
Odrita: I like it because you can talk about your favourite part of a book, but I prefer to read to self.
Rintaro: reading to some one is fun because I can learn new words.
HERE WE ARE, SITTING ELBOW TO ELBOW, KNEE TO KNEE!
This week we kicked off our inquiry into Who we are by imagining that we are to go on a journey to a new planet. What would we take with us? We were permitted to take 20 item. The students became very excited at the prospect of visiting a new planet, and asked if they could take their sleeping bags, scooters, and even nerf guns for protection, in case of an alien invasion.
Gradually, they had to remove item as there weren't enough space on the space ship!
It was interesting to see what items were removed after a discussion with partners ... shall we keep healthy food? Or let the computer go and take the nerf gun instead?
This lead to a discussion on what we need and what we want.
There some interesting responses..... can some needs be more pressing than others?
Next we explored what are rights .....
They all seemed to be aware of their responsibilities. We are still making the connection between rights and responsibilities.
