In Literacy this week we reviewed the idea of main idea and supporting details and thought about what tool to write about for the information report. We had a focus on finishing off written work in Daily Five and following the writing process.
In mathematics this week students finished interpreting the data on screen time and sleep and looked for important trends. They practised measuring length with different tools. The students worked in groups to design a way to find out how much border roll we needed to order for different display boards in the classroom. This was a way to introduce the concept of perimeter. We then went outside and tried to follow the perimeter fence around the school. Finally, the students measured the perimeter of different 2D shapes.
Unit of Inquiry
This week, the students explored the sounds made by different musical instruments and found ways to describe them. We grouped these adjectives under the headings duration, pitch, dynamics and timbre. The students listened to three different pieces of music about water, described the sounds they could hear and the images the sounds created in their minds.
