Apart from continued work on spelling, we practised using new adverbs to build sentences that create a mental image for the reader. We spent a lot of our time working on the information reports, as outlined in the Unit of Inquiry section.
In mathematics this week, the students worked on their understanding of the concept of area. They had to create shapes with an area of four squares using square and triangular puzzle pieces. They also had to figure out strategies to find the perimeter and area of their foot. The students practised their 'careful reading' in mathematics by answering questions about the sign up sheet for next week's Grade Five Market Day event. This invovled mathematics skills such as calculating elapsed time and also some of our reading strategies like tuning in to interesting words, inferring meaning and using text features. The students also revisited some graphs and charts.

Our main focus this week was completing the information reports about musical instruments. This process involved choosing an instrument, developing conceptual research questions, locating the relevant information using a range of suitable search engines and databases including Britannica, KidsInfoBits and BrainPop, reorganising the information and then presenting it using appropriate text features. On Friday, all the the students in Grade Three shared their reports in the MPR.
We are a Grade 3 class in Singapore. We hope you enjoy sharing our learning journey with us this year. Our class teacher is Ms. Vicky and our Teacher's Assistant is Ms. Noreen.
