Home Learning Expectations in Grade Three The ISS homework guidelines for Grade 3 are 20 minutes of homework tasks and 15 minutes of personal reading, Monday to Thursday. Personal Reading Students in Grade 3 can choose to read a book from the school Library or a book of their own.
Students use the IPICK strategy to select “good fit” books at school.
They check for:
● Purpose: Why would I want to read this book?
●Interest Is this book interesting to me?
● Comprehension: Can I understand the meaning?
● Know Do I know most of the words? This strategy encourages students to read independently for pleasure and to have the stamina and interest to complete their reading. The more they read at a level they can understand, the more their reading will improve. We want the students to be voracious readers who love reading. The reading journal is purely for students to log what they are reading. We will look at it once a week. It is not meant to be onerous or put your child off reading. Students are also welcome to read books in RAZ Kids, which we use for listening to reading in Daily Five.
Mathletics : Two or three tasks will be set on Mathletics every Monday, to be completed by Friday. Students can then proceed to Live Mathletics.
Spelling City: Students’ spelling lists will be available on the website for them to practise at home through games. Typing Students are encouraged to practise their typing at least once a week at home.
